My Medicine Cabinet

I completely believe in medicine.  When it's necessary.  However a 5 minute appointment with a doctor that sees my sick child once or twice a year, that writes all sorts of prescriptions for my kid, leaves me uneasy.  I have found that using natural methods to combat sickness in our house has worked well.  Since beginning my health journey, my daughter has yet to have any kind of antibiotic or medicine other than fever reducer.  I am proud to say that because her immune system has had to fight, she is a healthier kid for it.  My son has had his share of medical issues, which were the catalyst for my jump into natural medicine and nutrition.  Since his body has been detoxed, he also has a healthy immune system.  Something we all have forgotten because of modern medicine and vaccines, is that back in the day when people would get these horrible sicknesses and then get well, they usually were much healthier and had growth spurts, or other illness in their systems might have disappeared.  God made our bodies with an immune system for a reason.  Here is a list of the natural products I have on hand at all times.  If you have any questions about how to use any of these products, please email me.

Vira Stop:  This is a must in my house.  When someone starts feeling sick, we start using Vira Stop.  It's a balance of enzymes that break down toxins in your body thus promoting better immune function.

Organic Sambucus for Kids:  This is made with Elderberry to help promote good immune function.  Traditionally known as "the winter remedy", this is an excellent way to boost your kids' immune systems during flu season.  My son loves the taste!

Sambucol:  This is the same Elderberry supporting formula as Sambucus, but in a tablet for adults.  I usually have two boxes of these on hand.  My daughter doesn't like the liquid, so we use these tablets with her.

Zinc for Kids and Zinc for Adults:  Most of us don't get enough zinc because we are imbalanced with the amount of copper we consume daily (copper pipping, copper cookware, etc...).  If you have a sweet craving after you eat, you are probably zinc deficient.  If you are getting sick a lot, you are probably zinc deficient.  If you have acne, you are probably zinc deficient.  If you drink alcohol often, you are probably zinc deficient.  If you have any kind of skin issues, you are probably zinc deficient.  So, boost your immune system by taking some zinc.

Probiotics for Kids and Probiotics for Adults:  EIghty percent of your immune system is in your gut.  If you have EVER taken antibiotics, then you have gut issues.  If you were a c-section baby, then you did not get the proper colonization of bacteria.  If you have acne, digestive problems, wheat belly, mood issues, anxiety, allergies, behavior problems, or learning issues, then you will notice a difference when you take probiotics.  The research about probiotics is incredible.  Just as antibiotics were the answer years ago, probiotics are taking their place as a great medical find.

Ear, Nose and Throat Probiotics:  My son is prone to ear infections.  Instead of rushing to get an antibiotic, we use this.  These probiotics are the good bacteria needed in your ears, nose and throat.  If you have a child that suffers from constant infections of the ears, nose or throat, then you might want to try these.

Cold Calm for Kids and Cold Calm for Adults:   If you do start getting a cold, then Cold Calm is a great mix of homeopathic remedies to help your body recognize the bacteria or the virus and start fighting.

Vicks VapoRub:  This is going to sound odd, but we use this on our feet.  When you have a someone coughing, you rub this on the pads of their feet and then cover their feet in socks.  This will stop the coughing.  We use it at night.  It's incredible how it works.

Chestal:  Better and safer than cough syrup, Chestal is a great mix of remedies to help loosen up a cough and soothe your child's throat too.

Oscillococcinum or Oscillococcinum for Kids:  This is the best remedy mix ever for the flu!  My son had the flu last year and was down for two weeks.  We were quarantined with him that entire time.  So, my daughter and I started taking this.  Neither her nor I got the flu.  And believe me we were covered in his germs.  This is so much safer than a flu shot or Tamiflu.

Silver Shield:  This is the antibiotic cream or spray of my medicine cabinet.  The kids fall and are bleeding, silver shield.  Someone cut themselves, silver shield.  Someone picked a scab, silver shield.  My son's ear is hurting, silver shield.  A strange rash appears, silver shield. Someone gets burned, silver shield.  And the great news here is that it won't leave a scar.  It's pretty amazing.

Trace Minerals:  The most important supplement in my house.  After reading about trace minerals, I think you'll agree.

Calendula:  This is another cream to put on scrapes and burns.  I used to keep it in my diaper bag.  It also works on diaper rash.

Arnica:  This is a gel to put on a bump so it won't bruise, and arnica helps with the pain.  I still keep this one in my purse.

So there you have my best and favorite remedies and supplements for good health.
